Founded in 1983, Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a leading cultural attraction in South Florida that provides open access to all guests. Today the Center is a global leader in the research, rehabilitation, and protection of sea turtles, serving our broader mission to promote ocean ecosystem conservation. Annually we reach 900,000 guests with our transformational education programs and partner with nearly 100 organizations across six continents and 16 countries in ocean conservation. In early 2022, we opened a new 27,500 square-foot campus that greatly expands our exhibition, education, and convening space and doubles our medical facilities.
- Ocean Scholars will immerse themselves in the daily operations of LMC’s pillar departments: Hospital, Education, Research, and Conservation.
- While working with these departments, students will develop skills in scientific communication, get exposed to various forms of research, and gain insight into a career in marine science.
- Scholars will especially work closely with the Education team by working with our weekly Junior Marine Biologist summer camp, building their skills in public speaking and interpreting marine topics to others.
- In addition to their hands-on work, interns will network with professionals in the marine science field, boosting their resumes and social capital for future academic and career opportunities.
Internship Summary:
Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) is excited to offer a unique and immersive opportunity for high school students passionate about marine science and conservation. The Ocean Scholars Program is a 10-week summer internship designed for youth ages 15 to 18 residing in Palm Beach or Martin Counties. Five dedicated scholars will be selected to work alongside LMC’s team of expert scientists and educators, gaining hands-on experience in sea turtle rehabilitation, research, ocean conservation and marine education.

Hours & Compensation:
- Interns can work either full time (35 hours per week) or part time (24 hours per week), with an hourly rate of $17/hour
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 15Â years of age
- Must be currently enrolled at a Palm Beach or Martin County high school
- In good academic standing
- Demonstrated excitement and interest in the environment and marine science
- Demonstrated need for exposure to marine science opportunities
- Ability to adapt to new situations
- Works well with other peers in a group environment towards a shared goal
- Willing to work outdoors in Florida’s heat, rain, and wind as needed
- Required to attend the mandatory orientation on Sunday, May 31, 2026
